The NENA Regional consultation towards the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries

FAO with the assistance of INFOSAMAK and the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Sultanate of Oman and the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) co-organized a regional 4 day workshop under the theme: “The Near East and North Africa Regional Consultation: Towards the Implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication, which was held in Muscat – Oman during the period from 7 through 10 December, 2015. It was attended by 40 participants representing governments, academia, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and regional and international organizations, civil society organization (CSOs), coming from 12 countries in the Near East and North Africa region.

As accustomed, INFOSAMAK took part in the 4th edition of the Middle East and Africa Seafood Exhibition (SEAFEX 2015) that was held in Dubai, UAE, from 27 to 29 October 2015. The exposition features more than 183 exhibitors from over 29 countries with 13.022 trade visitors from 28 countries. INFOSAMAK was present with a booth to promote the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the Arab Region. In this respect, INFOSAMAK assisted organizing meetings between businessmen from its member countries and other countries.

Study tour for Senegalese delegation

As part of cooperation with the European Union (EU), INFOSAMAK was called to organize a study tour for the benefit of a delegation of administrators and Senegalese traders in the Kingdom of Morocco. The study tour took place on 22 to 28 November 2015. The visit is organized within the framework of a Technical Cooperation Project between EU and Senegal: “Technical assistance to the Government of Senegal to implement a project for the sustainable development of fisheries AduPeS”.

Spain is at the head of Europe in fish consumption, according to the results of a survey presented on April 21, in Brussels, where the Global Seafood Expo, the largest event in the fishing industry, is being held.
The first survey on Fish Consumption and the Fishing Sector’s Role in Europe, conducted by Europêche reveals that:
• 75 per cent of Spaniards consume seafood 2-3 times per week, compared to 70 per cent of Europeans, who only do so once a week.
• The fishing industry contributes with EUR 71.3 billion to the EU economy, but only 1.7 per cent of the EU budget for 2014 has been assigned to the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) to promote the sustainable catch of natural resources.

Morocco - Ivory Coast: Work landing point arranged for artisanal fishing

The project implementation work of the Landing Point (PDA) of artisanal fisheries "Grand Lahou" was launched on June 2, in Abidjan by King Mohammed VI in the presence of Ivorian Prime Minister Mr Daniel Kablan Duncan. The project that totals 20 million DH ( more than 1.2 billion CFA francs) was financed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development amounting to 13 million DH and the Department of Maritime Fisheries (DH 7 million), and is part of the framework of South-South cooperation which reflects a strong testimony of friendship ties existing between Morocco and the Ivory Coast.
