European Union Opens Its Market To Palestinian Exports

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission Catherine Ashton, on April 13th, on behalf of the European Union signed an Agreement with Prime Minister Fayyad that gives all agricultural products, processed agricultural products and fish and fishery products originating in the West Bank and Gaza Strip immediate duty free access to the EU market.

In a World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting, a group of countries took a firm position against fisheries subsidies.
ICTSD reports that New Zealand’s ambassador, speaking on behalf of Argentina, Australia, Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway and the US, said these countries expect ambitious rules limiting fisheries subsidy payments to be a key result of the negotiations of WTO’s Negotiations Group on Rules.

New guidelines for organic cultivation of fish and seaweed

Representatives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) will meet in Canada next month to assess the inclusion of animals and seaweed produced using aquaculture techniques in the Guidelines for Production, Processing, Labelling and Marketing of Organically Produced Foods.
