FAO and INFOSAMAK convened an expert Meeting on "Building bridges in assessment of marine biodiversity and resource status: Similarity, complementarity and opportunities for conservation and fisheries focused global initiatives" which was held on 9-11 November, 2016 in Casablanca, Morocco. The aim for the 2.5 days meeting is to build a better approach to working on information and informing the community, in order to offer further clarity to stakeholders.
One of the main issue from FAOs point of view is that there are stocks that have been fished down to sustainable levels, but which trigger threatened species status listing because of declines in stock biomass, and the fact that various conservation focussed criteria conflict with normative fisheries management practices when applied to freshwater or marine fisheries.
