Representatives of Arab countries held a working meeting on the sidelines of the 17th Session of the Subcommittee on Fish Trade of the FAO Committee on Fisheries held from 25 to 29 November 2019 in Vigo / Spain, to discuss the possibility of adherence of new members to the Centre of Marketing Information and Advisory Services of Fishery Products in the Arab Region (INFOSAMAK).
During this meeting, which was attended by the representatives of Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia (member countries), the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman (non-member countries), Mr. OUATI Youssef, INFOSAMAK Director, made a brief presentation regarding INFOSAMAK Centre and recalled that letters have been sent to Ministers in charge of fisheries in non-member Arab countries, namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar , the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, the Sultanate of Oman, Lebanon, Jordan, Somalia and the Comoros Islands, to invite and sensitize them to the interest of joining this intergovernmental organization that is part of the FISHINFO Network created by FAO, and benefit from its expertise services.
The INFOSAMAK Director seized this opportunity to recall the role of the member countries Focal Points in updating the profiles of their countries available on the website of INFOSAMAK Centre which was renovated in 2018 and which is enriched by case studies and news about regulations and technological innovations.
