FAO and INFOSAMAK convened an expert workshop on “the methodology to assess and quantify the extent and impact of fisheries bycatch and discards” which was held on 26-28 May, 2015 in Casablanca, Morocco. It gathered 17 participants with specialization in fisheries bycatch and discards estimation, statistics, management, social science and economics. The workshop aimed to propose, validate and agree on the approach and methodology that will be used in the identification and quantification of the extent and impact of fisheries bycatch and discards throughout the world. Develop the scope, timeline, methodology, deliverables and budget for updating global bycatch and discards estimates. And finally Develop a formal prospectus for consideration by potential donors and partners.
