This Step will provide better protection of the environment by first avoiding wastewater discharge into the nature and recovery of sludge through solar drying and will also help to preserve the city underground water resources.

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) branch water will recruit on September 5th, 2019 a provider for the realization of technical assistance for monitoring the work of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the industrial waters of the small pelagic project area of Dakhla.

The services estimated cost is 2.8 million DH.
The ONEE the project holder has released a tender whose purpose is to carry out technical assistance missions to monitor the work of the Step of the industrial waters of the area of the Dakhla port of small pelagic projects and the follow-up of the realization work of the unit of solar drying of sludge from the existing Step of Dakhla city.

The new infrastructure will provide better environmental protection by first avoiding the discharge of wastewater into the natural environment and the recovery of sludge through solar drying and will also help preserve the city's underground water resources.

The realization of this Step is part of a program of ONEE to support the project of the new zone dedicated to the small pelagic projects of Dakhla. Indeed, targeted investment projects in this new area, in addition to being generators of wealth and employment, should strengthen the industrial fabric of the region by allowing the supply diversification of valued goods and will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Small Pelagic Fisheries Management Plan of (Stock C), one of the flagship projects of the Halieutis strategy. Its aim is to make the Moroccan fishery resources more sustainable, to double the GDP of the fishing sector and thus to make the fishing sector a growth engine for the national economy.

The need for this plan was motivated by several reasons, including the importance of these species in national fishery production and the importance of the Moroccan sardine stock Pilchardus Walbum. It should be recalled that in the context of the development of the southern provinces, the Department of Maritime Fisheries supports and encourages the implementation of projects for the valorization of sea products in this region through the fishing quotas allocation of, in the fishery of small pelagic species in the South Atlantic, covering part of the supply requirements of the proposed recovery project. Indeed, the Department of Maritime Fisheries (DPM) is continuing to implement incentives to increase the share of landings valued locally and the development of value-added recovery industries to improve the level of wealth and employment creation in the region.
