HM The King Launches Man-Made Reef Development And Immersion Works Off Martil
HM King Mohammed VI launched, on December 7th, 2011, works to develop and immerse a man-made reef off the city of Martil (north of Morocco), worth 37,5 million dirhams.

The project aims at reconstructing and rehabilitating degraded marine areas, ensuring rational, sustainable use of biological resources, preserving marine biological diversity and improving small-scale fishermen’s income.
t will be carried out on 52 hectares, nearly one kilometre away from the coast, with a depth of between 21 and 40 metres.
HM the King also enquired about the fisheries development programme by setting up man-made reefs, worth 500 million dirhams.
The programme consists of setting up 29 man-made reefs by 2020. It will eventually create indirect jobs by developing new activities, doubling the production of the species concerned, increasing fishermen’s income by 50%, reducing illicit trawling in 90% of sites and preserving marine biological diversity.
The Monarch also heard details on the programme to restock man-made reefs with fish, worth 100 million dirhams.
Under this programme, the man-made reefs of Souiria K’Dima (near Safi) were stocked with 40,000 sea bass alevins in 2010 and 15,000 meagre alevins in 2011.
