A generalized three month fishing ban has been installed along the Moroccan shores during the period from May 5th to July 5th.
The decision, made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries and aiming at the protection of the parental stock, came up after a prospecting survey, undertaken by the National Research Institute of Fisheries (INRH) that confirmed the overexploitation of this species. It is to mention that such decision is, inter alia, an important component in the Halieutis Plan which objectives are to preserve fish stocks, raise productivity and boost Morocco's competitiveness in international markets.
