Tangiers: Testing operation for the benefit of those involved in maritime fisheries

07/07/2020 A testing operation was organized on Saturday 29 June for the benefit of those involved in sea fishing in the port of Tangier, as part of the national strategy to combat the spread of the pandemic of the new corona virus.

This operation concerns all seafarers working in the ports of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, with the aim of combating the spread of Covid-19 and ensuring the continuity of activities in the fishing sector and the supply of fresh fish to the national market, explained the director of the Chamber of Maritime Fisheries of the Mediterranean, Mr . Raouf El Honsali in a statement to MAP. He expressed on this occasion his thanks to the medical staff who supervised this operation which continued on Monday in the port of Larache.

For his part, the delegate of maritime fisheries, Mr. Mohiyddine Moudden, said that this testing operation, which targets fishermen practicing coastal and deep-sea fishing and all actors working at the port level, has enabled the realization of more than 1,400 tests. "This campaign will continue until Monday to include fishermen working in the small scale fishing sector and the number of tests should reach about 2,000," he said, commending the efforts made by the Regional Directorate of Health for the success of this operation decided by the minister. Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forestry. The operation took place in the best conditions thanks to the work done by the Chamber of Maritime Fisheries, professional associations, cooperatives and professional bodies of the sector for the supervision and organization of the beneficiaries of the testing operations, he said, noting that the activity of the fisheries sector at the port level did not stop during this exceptional period thanks to the efforts of all stakeholders.

For his part, the president of the Amicale Zhani of fish marketing in the port of Tangier,Mr. Mohamed Moudden, welcomed this initiative which has involved several ports in the Kingdom and the mobilization of various stakeholders, including local authorities, the Chamber of Maritime Fisheries and fishing professionals. For his part, Mr. Mohamed Benfaddal, of the Association Grand Tangier of the owners of small scale fishing in the port of Tangier, he highlighted the efforts made by the authorities in the fisheries sector and the commitment of professional associations working in the fisheries sector.

So far, the Covid-19 testing operation has concerned fishermen working in the ports of M'diq and maritime fishing centres under the responsibility of the landing points in Asserasse, the fishing village of Chemlala, the port of Jebha, the health unit under Al Hoceima Maritime Fisheries Delegation, the port of Cala Iris and the port of Ksar Sghir (Fahs-Anjra province). It continued on Monday in the port of Larache.
