![]() 03/05/2020 Sea fishing activity continues in order to maintain regular market supply and the supply of fish is currently being strengthened, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Sea Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forestry. "The current period should see a greater supply thanks to an increase in fishing activities which during the first quarter of the year were going through the usual low season of the fishing sector (particularly for pelagic fisheries), as well as the bad weather conditions that marked this same period," a statement from the Department of Sea Fisheries said Tuesday, adding that "the supply of fish should thus be strengthened". Landings are thus at the level of the usual averages observed during this period (1,900 T/day since the beginning of March), notes the same source. And to recall that in the context of the health crisis related to Covid-19 and the measures taken by the country to fight against the spread of this virus, the maritime fishing sector has organized, since the outbreak of the state of health emergency, in favor of the continuity of its activities and market supply, reports MAP. Thanks to the expected increase in available volumes, the price levels of fishery products will have to be maintained at stable levels with a strengthening of supply during the month of Ramadan, notes the statement. It adds that all the necessary conditions have been taken to offer products at accessible prices at the level of first sale and wholesale markets. The Department also states that the entire infrastructure connected with fishing and marketing remains operational, in particular the fish markets and wholesale markets, in compliance with the health requirements. All the wholesale markets are supplied on a continuous basis, the exact same source, adding that the quantities transiting the wholesale markets increased by 25% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. On average, 500 T are distributed daily in the wholesale markets. The first day of the month of Ramadan was also marked by the recording of a record in terms of volumes distributed with 1200 tons in the Casablanca wholesale market, the press release concludes. |
