France: 50 million additional euros to help the sector

These measures aim to strengthen France in the maritime sector, in particular with aid to accelerate the ecological transition of merchant ships. Fishing was the hardest part of the negotiation of the post-Brexit trade agreement concluded at the end of December between the European Union and the United Kingdom. But the compromise reached is a source of tension: European fleets will have to give up 25% of their catches in British waters after a transition period running until June 2026.
Other announcements from the Head of State: maritime employment assistance will be extended for three years and a maritime specialty should be created within Pôle emploi, in order to improve the placement of seafarers against a backdrop of difficulties of 'hires.
